Color Palette: Eclectic Hollywood Regency- Indigo, Mint & Garnet

I love Hollywood regency and the golden age of Hollywood in general so when I cam e across this picture (I don't have a source to credit, if you know it please let me know) I fell in love with the color palette. The colors are so unique to the style, it's a bit feminine with a modern edge. I didn't include that lovely pink in the palette but it's definitely crucial to this room. There's something about mint that I find calming and neutral enough to mix with other things in a room. I love the way the bold black and white zig-zag area rug ties in the room. Defining Decor: Erin Fetherston's NY Apartment

Via | Vogue
“I see it as a reflection of my creative universe, It’s romantic and chic, but clean and modern," says fashion designer Erin Fetherston about her Tribeca apartment that overlooks the Hudson River. It has an undeniable old-world charm with personal touches that add a whimsical eclectic feel to her spacious yet cozy home.
I love her home style, it's effortlessly  chic in a down-to-earth way. Understated elegance could describe it. After living in France for 5 years she was able to capture the European style she loved so much by shipping over her antique furniture once she moved to the States. The subtle blue color of the walls in her living area bring a welcoming and calming sense to the space don't you think? Those antique nesting tables are gorgeous! The clean simplicity of her bedroom and office space speak volumes for "less is more".

 Chinoiserie  touches like the lamps and silk screen in the bedroom add refined grace and sophistication in an otherwise plain room. Meanwhile, there's a structured kind of mess to her closet and dressing table. Venetian mirrors and fresh flowers on a vanity are a weakness for me.  I appreciate the mixture of textures and details within her home, the small details capture personality and add to the ambiance. Defining Decor: Bold Black & White Graphic

There's something so simply chic about black and white in interior design. It's accommodating to different styles and tastes and no one can debate that it doesn't look good. Black and white is my go-to combo for just about everything from my wardrobe to my home, I just absolutely love the contrast. It's go bold or go home when it comes to decorating with this color combination. A pop of a bright third color really adds to a space making it playful but still sophisticated. Here are examples of how bold black and white graphics can be used to define your style. {I don't have credits for the above images except the one that is noted, please comment with the credit if you happen to know it}

A graphic rug or cushion can be added to any space to give it a bold look and add dimension. Rug from here and cushion from here. I love the look of black piping or trimming on bedding and furniture too. My favorite design style for using bold black and white graphic decor and design is Hollywood Regency, there's nothing like it.

Today I Like: Exposed Brick

Country Living

The exposed brick wall adds texture in this shabby chic room. And that delicate chandelier is the perfect off-set to the rustic brick. Love the look but don't have actual brick walls? You can fake it with faux brick paneling. Hope everyone's having a nice father's Day weekend!

Mad about Mid Century Modern

Okay so I'm way behind with catching on to how amazing Mad Men is. But only because I don't have cable. If not, I do believe I would've been hooked on it a lot sooner. Not only is the show great because of it's characters and story but the design and styling is to die for. It's a feast for a creative's eyes! All of that lovely mid century goodness with fantastic wardrobe is reason alone to start watching the show. Mid century modern is really making a comeback, especially through design blogs filled with before and after furniture renovations and vintage lovers collecting their favorite pieces {like milk glass, vintage Pyrex & retro lamps} through Etsy. The style is classic, all-American, sleek and stylish, yet cozy. These interiors are as inviting as they are effortlessly styled to perfection. Expect to see some more Mad Men-inspired posts until I get it all out of my system. If you're in the market for some great mid century furniture check out Room Service in LA, your local flea markets and even Craigslist.

Whether it's free hand or with an actual stencil, stenciling walls, ceilings {loving the royal ceiling medallions}, furniture and floors is totally trending at the moment. It's a simple way to spruce up a room or space with out wallpaper or tons of paint. Depending on the pattern and paint you choose you can achieve different looks. Some hot stencil patterns are bohemian-Moroccan shapes, Hollywood Regency trellis, French palace-inspired flourishes and bold modern-chic graphic prints. Take a look at this DIY transformation and shop for stencils here.
